The interfaith group ICARE, or Interfaith Coalition for Action, Reconciliation and Empowerment, held its 2016 Nehemiah Assembly Monday night.

The group pressed city and community leaders, including Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, Sheriff Mike Williams, and Duval County Schools Superintendent Nikolai Vitti, to address a variety of issues. Their four areas of focus: wealth building in Northwest Jacksonville; reopening the homeless day resource center; ex-offender re-entry and restorative justice and civil citations.

Curry pushed back, saying that the city’s pension woes are the reason City Hall can’t fund programs to address these problems.

We discuss ICARE’s push to find solutions with three of its memebers: Father Hugh Chapman, Pastor Phillip Baber and the Reverend Bruce Havens.
